The essence of information literacy is the ability to validate and manage information so that it can be used to solve problems effectively. But even as information literacy becomes more critical to problem solving and to the creation of wealth, what happens when Google enters the picture?
Paul Zurkowski believes that “a Google search is not information literacy,” and that independent information professionals (IIPs) are an important information literacy resource for government, non-profit, public, and business organizations. Along with some lively stories from the early days of the modern information industry, Zurkowski will describe a growing role for IIPs in developing information literacy. Slated for Apr. 2-6 in Baltimore, MD, the annual conference draws an international audience of information professionals who are also business owners.

About Paul Zurkowski
A lawyer by profession, Paul Zurkowski founded and served as president of the Information Industry Association from 1969 until 1989. He remains engaged with the entrepreneurial and sociopolitical impact of information and digital content. In October 2013, Zurkowski delivered the first keynote address at the inaugural European Conference on Information Literacy in Istanbul, Turkey, where he also led a workshop on becoming an information entrepreneur.
