The Kauffman Foundation today released a policy brief and video highlighting ideas to spur entrepreneurial growth that a panel of policy leaders presented at the Foundation’s 2014 State of Entrepreneurship Address held last week in Washington, D.C. In addition, a video of Kauffman President and CEO Tom McDonnell presenting the Foundation’s address is available.

McDonnell’s address outlines the Foundation’s new research initiative called America’s New Entrepreneurial Growth Agenda, which is geared toward identifying ways the United States can foster a faster-growing and more broad-based entrepreneurial economy.

The video of the panel discussion that followed McDonnell’s address features leading thinkers, dubbed “Washington Wonks,” pitching their best policy ideas for a stimulating new entrepreneurial growth agenda to a panel of judges, called “Policy Pundits,” who offered feedback and questions. The policy brief offers a summary of each idea, which covered the following topics:

  •     Welcoming Foreign-Born Entrepreneurs: The Startup Visa, presented by Donald Marron, director of Economic Policy Initiatives, Urban Institute;
  •     Protecting the Environment for Innovation: A Regulatory Improvement Commission, presented by Will Marshall, founder and president, Progressive Policy Institute (attendees and online viewers voted this as their favorite idea); and
  •     Back-to-work Program Through Payroll Tax Exemptions, presented by Megan McArdle, columnist, Bloomberg View, and author of The Up Side of Down.

Policy Pundits were:

  •     Bo Cutter, senior fellow and director of the Next American Economy Project, Roosevelt Institute
  •     Rana Foroohar, assistant managing editor and columnist, Time
  •     Christopher Schroeder, entrepreneur, venture investor and author of Startup Rising
