Fadó Irish Pub Proudly Announces $6 Million Milestone in Fundraising to Help Fight Childhood Cancer During St Patrick's Day Festivities
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) February 24, 2014 -- Fadó Irish Pub on St Patrick’s Day is synonymous with endless food, drink and music. What people may not know is that each year, a few days prior to March 17, Fado Irish Pubs across the country are also host to St Baldrick’s Foundation charity events which have been quietly raising money and awareness to fight childhood cancer for over 11 years. This year, Fadó proudly announces that a total of 9 pub’s and 600+ participants (and counting) have already raised over $228,000 for the 2014 head-shaving events which puts the total of funds raised since 2003 as a company at over $6 million. This milestone makes Fado Pubs Inc the largest contributor among any restaurant or pub to the St Baldrick’s Foundation.
“I am particularly sensitive to children’s charities and to cancer charities, so St Baldrick’s is the perfect combination for me,” says Kieran McGill, CEO and owner of Fadó Pubs Inc. “It is great to see the hard work and enthusiasm from our staff and our customers pay off and have this kind of impact in our local communities.”
The planning starts months in advance as participants, volunteers and pub staff begin to spread the word with the hopes of beating the goal set the previous year. The entire community is involved and challenged to rise to the occasion. From local barbers and hair salons donating their time and equipment to pub regulars & staff donating cash and, of course, shaving their heads. The end result is a fun afternoon in an Irish Pub shared with friends that impacts the community and, most importantly, the lives of children battling cancer.
“We are honored to have the support of Fado locations across the country, and are overwhelmed by their commitment to help fund the best childhood cancer research to find cures and better treatments for kids with cancer,” said Heather Kash, senior director of corporate relations and risk management for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. “My first involvement with St. Baldrick’s was as a volunteer, organizing a local event at Fado Irish Pub in Chicago. Our St. Baldrick’s events around the world rely on our generous hosts such as Fado, bringing together people from all walks of life - uniting strangers and reuniting old friends under one cause.”
In a time where people have less and less to give, Fadó Irish Pub and the St Baldrick’s Foundation have found a formula that works. To learn more on how you can participate, contact your local pub or go to http://www.stbaldricks.org/events/fado/.
About St. Baldrick’s Foundation
The St. Baldrick’s Foundation is a volunteer-driven charity committed to funding the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers and give survivors long and healthy lives. St. Baldrick’s coordinates its signature head-shaving events worldwide where participants collect pledges to shave their heads in solidarity with kids with cancer, raising money to fund research. Since 2005, St. Baldrick’s has awarded more than $127 million to support lifesaving research, making the Foundation the largest private funder of childhood cancer research grants. St. Baldrick’s funds are granted to some of the most brilliant childhood cancer research experts in the world and to younger professionals who will be the experts of tomorrow.
