Washington, DC (PRWEB) February 19, 2014 -- There is a lot of enthusiasm for the educational benefits of online and hybrid learning environments, but even today’s most experienced and tech-savvy educators may be overwhelmed by the task of developing and implementing these new instructional models. Today the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE®) launched a series of detailed guides on online and hybrid learning to give educators a blueprint for designing these systems as well as preparing student for successful online learning.
The series, Grounded Designs for Online and Hybrid Learning, is edited by Atsusi ''2c'' Hirumi, an associate professor of Instructional Design and Technology at the University of Central Florida. Hirumi’s work focuses on developing systems to train K-12, university and corporate educators on the design, development and delivery of interactive distance education programs.
The first book, Online and Hybrid Learning Design Fundamentals, covers the basic tasks associated with the systematic design of online and hybrid learning environments. Hirumi emphasizes the importance of, and illustrates methods for, aligning learner assessments to learning objectives, and presents a framework for designing and sequencing meaningful e-learning interactions. This book features practical tools for preparing students for successful online learning, connects educators to reusable resources for designing online courses, and provides examples of how online instruction can and should be universally designed for children with special needs.
Online and Hybrid Learning Designs in Action, the second book in the series, illustrates how to apply eight instructional strategies based on cognitive information processing, inquiry, experiential, and game-based theories of learning and teaching to ground the design of your online and hybrid coursework.
The third book, Online and Hybrid Learning Trends and Technologies, looks further into key aspects of designing and delivering online and hybrid learning. The contributors to this book continue to focus on the instructional components of e-learning systems, looking at e-learning trends and technologies, such as the management of large classes, podcasts, the educational uses of virtual worlds, and the development of virtual schools in North America and around the world.
