Bellucci Premium, a high quality extra virgin olive oil producer, responds to an article published by Fox News that discusses a Harvard Public Health study on the health effects of a Mediterranean diet on firefighters.

In an article published by Fox News on February 5th titled “Mediterranean diet linked to lowered risk of heart disease for young populations,” a study conducted by the Harvard School of Public Health is discussed. The study involved 780 male firefighters and found that eating close to a Mediterranean diet had reduced their risk of metabolic syndrome, which includes symptomssuch as high blood pressure and high blood sugar, by 35%.

The study also found that the firefighters who adhered to a Mediterranean diet had lowered their risk of weight gain by 43%compared to the men who strayed from the correct diet. Firefighters were specifically chosen for this study because “firefighters are known to have a higher prevalence of obesity and risk factors for cardiovascular disease,” and they are able to show how effective a Mediterranean diet can be for a younger age group.
