EverSpark Study: Budweiser Wins the Super Bowl
Atlanta (PRWEB) February 19, 2014 -- Budweiser won the biggest social media boost out of any Super Bowl advertiser this year, according to an infographic that presented numbers gathered by internet marketing company EverSpark Interactive.
The beer giant's TV commercial, dubbed “Puppy Love,” aimed for a heartwarming angle with a friendship between a horse and a scruffy farm dog. According to EverSpark's numbers (retrieved 02.17.2014), that approach apparently worked—nabbing the most Youtube exposure and a 24 percent increase in Facebook likes.
A commercial's effect on social media is an vital metric, according to EverSpark marketing specialist Jessica Mielcarek. Mielcarek says that's due in part to the lasting value of new social followers—who can be reached long after the Super Bowl.
“A hit Super Bowl ad creates only temporary sales,” Mielcarek said. “But if it also creates a solid increase in social media followers, then there's a lasting benefit because you can reach followers over and over.”
Mielcarek said that this lasting exposure can actually be more valuable than the game-day viewers themselves.
“For a large established brand, Super Bowl ads don't really increase market share. But as the numbers show, even Budweiser still has room to grow its social network.”
EverSpark's figures chart Budweiser gaining nearly twice as many Twitter followers as the next most successful Bowl ad, from Hyundai. And with over 38 million YouTube views, the $4 million price tag on Bud's commercial spot amounts to only 21 cents per view.
But Mielcarek emphasizes that the commercial alone doesn't determine social media success.
“It has to do with how well your internet presence is set up, how engaging it is,” she said. “When someone Googles you, do they get hooked by what they find?”
