Project Walk – San Francisco Announces Selection of Facility Manager
Fremont, CA (PRWEB) February 20, 2014 -- Project Walk – San Francisco is excited to announce the selection of Heather Newcom as its Facility Manager as they prepare to open their doors March 24, 2014. Newcom has a long history with Project Walk, dating back to its early days as a one-location facility in which Newcom began her tenure with Project Walk as a Specialist.
After leaving the industry in 2009 to be with family and care for loved ones, Newcom felt the itch to return to her roots and sought out work with a company that left a lasting impression in her early career.
“I wanted to get back to the SCI community and work with the disability population again, so I began researching possibilities over the holidays,” says Newcom. “When I saw the posting about Project Walk – San Francisco, I knew that was the job for me.”
By bringing Project Walk to the Bay Area, people with mobility-related disorders will have access to a true recovery method much closer to home. Based on The Dardzinski Method, Project Walk has nearly two decades of experience and uses intense activity-based programs backed by research and technology to expose those affected by paralysis to the most forward-thinking rehabilitation in the industry.
When reflecting on her time with Project Walk, Newcom instantly described an important aspect of the Project Walk atmosphere. “The camaraderie between clients and staff is something that really stuck with me,” says Newcom. She adds, “it always felt like a family where everyone worked hard towards one common goal; helping people recover.”
Born and raised in Northern California, Newcom received her undergraduate degree from California State University, Chico where she went to nationals as part of Chico State’s cross country team. Newcom received her graduate degree from the University of San Francisco and completed her thesis by creating a comprehensive business plan for a health and wellness center for people with disabilities.
“We are very excited to have Heather as part of the Project Walk family,” says Brian Malkinson, Director of Operations. “We trust that her experience and knowledge with the disability population will help to better serve those able to make it to our San Francisco facility.”
When asked to describe her favorite pastime, Newcom says without hesitation, “anything with my 96-and-a-half year old gramps! We have a date night every Wednesday night!”
