XY™ Launches on Kickstarter as the Secure and Affordable Bluetooth Tracking Tag for All Things Valuable
San Diego, Calif (PRWEB) February 20, 2014 -- Lost time spent searching for misplaced valuables is a thing of the past, as XY™ (http://www.xyfindit.com), the secure Bluetooth LE-powered tracking device, launches its Kickstarter campaign today. XY plans to ship the ready-to-use smartphone app and tags by June 2014, with prices starting below $11 per unit.
After more than 18 months of testing and development, XY syncs with any compatible iOS or Android device to keep track of personal valuables, from keys and wallets to pets and children.
Backed by a team with more than 50 years combined experience in hardware and software development, XY launches as the first product to not only allow users to locate misplaced valuables and share its location whereabouts with others, but also provide notifications when a tag is out of a pre-set range and offer a secure “Speak-to-Owner” feature.
“In developing XY, we created the app to detect nearby Bluetooth signals of other XY tags and check our servers to find out what information is viewable. Each tag is encrypted using a rotating cipher, making XY the most secure solution on the market. If a user is not permitted to see the tag, it will not show up on their list,” said XY President Daniel Wang. “The two distinct features XY is introducing with its Kickstarter launch are the app’s Speak-to-Owner and Keep-It modes.”
Speak-to-Owner is mobilized when an XY user finds an unclaimed item with an XY Tag. The “finder” can communicate with the “owner” of the tagged item directly through the XY App without either party disclosing any personal information. Using this one-of-a-kind feature, lost items can be returned through app communication, without exchanging emails, phone numbers or home addresses.
“Rather than disposing of the tag after the battery dies, remembering to order a new one, and re-syncing all of your valuables to a new device, XY takes normal watch batteries that users can replace as needed. Forgetting to re-order when a battery dies or is defective is never an issue with XY,” said Nicholas Trouw, lead product designer and software developer for XY. “Our goal is to have XY be a stylish, everyday tool that you’ll never spend a day without.”
With Kickstarter, “backers” have the option to pledge for a single XY Tag ($15), a 3-pack of tags ($40), or a pack of all seven colors ($75). In addition, XY will offer packages for pets, with tags on collars, and, eventually, children, with tags on bracelets.
XY functions in three different modes:
1) Find-It: In “Find-It” mode, users can track authorized tags within a 150-foot range of their phone. The on-screen indicator displays positioning as the user approaches the tag. If the item is not within range, the app will show the user where it was last seen.
2) Keep-It: For any valuables the user wants to keep close tabs on, “Keep-It” mode is activated. The app sounds an alert if the user is out of the pre-set range.
3) Lost-It: Users can mark any item with an XY Tag as “lost” from the app. Other XY users are alerted when in range of the lost tag; they may then assist in the recovery using the Speak-to-Owner feature.
“We are finalizing the tag designs and beta-testing the XY mobile apps. We plan to have the system in customers' hands this summer,” said Wang. “We cannot do this without the support and pledges from backers via Kickstarter. We need to buy components in large quantities to ensure our premium product will be made available at the affordable price we designed it be.”
XY is aiming to raise $45K in crowd-funding to start production. Pledges begin at $1 and range in amount, each with guaranteed deliverables, once the goal is achieved.
