Fight Colorectal Cancer Leads the March Against Colorectal Cancer in NYC
Alexandria, VA (PRWEB) February 24, 2014 -- The nonprofit Fight Colorectal Cancer is kicking off its public awareness campaign, One Million Strong, to raise awareness of March as Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month and celebrate survivors. The campaign will launch in Grand Central Terminal’s Vanderbilt Hall® on March 3 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in New York City. Throughout the month, those impacted by colorectal cancer are encouraged to share their stories, promote screening and join a “march” for the cause.
“History shows that there’s power when groups of people assemble and literally move, or march, for a purpose,” said Anjee Davis, Interim Executive Director of Fight Colorectal Cancer. “We are assembling those touched by this preventable disease to support others in the fight and advocate for a cure.”
The more than one million colorectal cancer survivors living in the U.S inspired the One Million Strong campaign. The New York City event will feature an inflatable walk-through colon, yoga, dancing, a vow renewal ceremony for survivors and caregivers, a procession down 43rd street to Times Square, a gown by fashion designer Carmen Marc Valvo and a special performance by singer-songwriter and American Country Award nominee Craig Campbell.
One featured activity of the educational event will include a “march” where survivors and advocates will join several local partners and sponsors to walk down Manhattan’s 43rd street. The walk will conclude in Times Square under the outdoor NASDAQ boards. At 4 p.m., Fight Colorectal Cancer representatives and sponsors will ring the closing bell and colorectal cancer awareness public service announcements will play on the Times Square outdoor boards.
“This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Blue Star – a symbol for colorectal cancer that’s united all of us in the colorectal cancer community,” said Davis. “We are happy to be celebrating with our sponsors and partners who are just as committed to our cause.”
Event sponsors include: Bayer Healthcare (presenting sponsor); Aquaçai Water; Boston Scientific; Exact Sciences; The Endoscopy Division of FUJIFILM Medical Systems U.S.A., Inc.; Genentech; Given Imaging; invendo medical; Quest Diagnostics; Quicken Loans; NASDAQ and Turtle Beach.
Event partners include: AliveAndKickn; New York Citywide Colon Cancer Control Coalition (C5); Colon Cancer Alliance; Colon Cancer Challenge Foundation; Jay Monahan Center for Gastrointestinal Health; Michael’s Mission; Montefiore Medical Center; New York Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (NYSGE); NYU Langone Medical Center; Stupid Cancer; The American Cancer Society and The Colon Club.
