Florida Career College Students Team Up with Habitat for Humanity to Put Low-Income Families into Five Homes
(PRWEB) February 21, 2014 -- Students and staff from Florida Career College (FCC)-Margate, the construction crew from Habitat for Humanity of South Palm Beach County (SPBC), future homeowners and volunteers joined together recently to assist with building five homes for local families in need.
From installing window panels and painting exteriors and interiors to laying down floors and building homes using pre-built frames, volunteers had the opportunity to work hands-on with the construction crew while learning about poverty housing issues and the options that Habitat for Humanity offers to families and communities, as well as the solutions.
“Our team was very enthusiastic about supporting Habitat for Humanity in their mission to provide safe and affordable housing for families in need,” said Kimberly Stone, FCC-Margate executive director.
Since establishment in 1991, Habitat for Humanity of SPBC has empowered more than 113 families in the community to achieve their dreams of eventually owning safe, decent and affordable new homes and more than 100 families have benefited from their home repair programs.
“Working with the very dedicated group of students and staff from Florida Career College was such a pleasure,” said Julia Rowe, Habitat for Humanity of SPBC volunteer engagement director. “Our projects are a great way to bring people together in a way that is celebratory and fun, as we not only build homes but communities and hope as well.”
Habitat for Humanity of SPBC is a nonprofit organization that works to provide affordable homeownership opportunities for hardworking and deserving families in the cities of Boynton Beach, Delray Beach and Boca Raton, Fla.
