At the CENTER for Advanced Periodontal & Implant Therapy, doctors Alexandre-Amir Aalam, DDS, and Alina Krivitsky, DDS, are proud to announce Advanced Platelet Rich Fibrin for gum grafts, a state-of-the-art procedure that uses a patient’s own blood to enhance tissue grafting procedures, resulting in faster healing time and an improved patient experience.

Used for gum grafts, Advanced Platelet Rich Fibrin treatment involves the processing of a patient’s own blood into platelet rich fibrin, tissue which has rapid healing abilities. Because of the faster healing time, patients are less exposed to the risk of infection, creating a procedure that is safer and more effective than traditional gum grafts.

“Advanced Platelet Rich Fibrin is a new and technologically-advanced procedure to help patients in need of gum grafts,” says Dr. Aalam. “At the CENTER for Advanced Periodontal & Implant Therapy, we are excited to bring this new procedure to our patients, allowing them to recover faster and with less discomfort than they would after a traditional gum graft.”

Advanced Platelet Rich Fibrin for gum graft differs from a traditional gum graft in a variety of ways. During a traditional gum graft procedure, gums are taken from the roof of the mouth. This new procedure, on the other hand, creates brand new tissue, advanced platelet rich fibrin, from the patient’s own blood. Due to the high level of protein found in this new tissue, patients will experience accelerated healing during their recovery and a reduced risk of post-operative complications.

“Advanced Platelet Rich Fibrin has been used in many other types of surgical procedures, such as heart surgery and orthopedic surgery, but this is one of the first times it has been used in the field of orthodontics,” says Dr. Aalam. “As one of the few periodontitis in the United States who performs this procedure, I am thrilled to offer it to my Los Angeles patients.”

Dr. Alexandre-Amir Aalam and Dr. Alina Krivitsky are board certified periodontists specializing in dental implants and gum and tissue diseases. They both opened The CENTER, a periodontal office focused on providing patients with excellent and skilled care at affordable prices, with the goal of restoring oral health and aesthetic appearance. They are alumni of the prestigious Ostrow School of Dentistry at USC and are still heavily involved in academia and giving back to future periodontists at USC. They are also the only two board-certified periodontists in the Brentwood area of Los Angeles.
