Bellucci Premium Responds to an Article on the US Government’s Push to Test Imported Olive Oils
Bohemia, NY (PRWEB) February 26, 2014 -- Bellucci Premium, a high quality extra virgin olive oil producer, responds to an article published by MLive about the US government’s push to test imported olive oils in order to prevent lower-grade oil from being marketed as “extra virgin.”
An article published by MLive on February 19th titled, “U.S. olive oil industry pushes government to test imported oils” discusses the testing that the US government will be placing on imported olive oil. The testing, which is “intended to prevent labeling lower-grade olive oil as ‘extra virgin’ or fraudulently cutting in other types of oil, would be much more comprehensive than what imported oils are subjected to now.” The grade ‘extra virgin’ is considered to be the highest, purest grade of olive oil. This grade implies the olives used were cold-pressed, zero processing took place, and the oil does not contain any other types of oil.
The United States is the third largest olive oil consumer in the world, behind Italy and Spain. Although consumption in the US has increased more than 50% since 2001, US consumers “aren’t able to distinguish good olive oil from bad, so they gravitate towards the least costly.”
Natalie Sexenian, the marketing manager for Tuscan olive oil producer Bellucci Premium, says, “Testing imported olive oil grade allows the consumer to make an informed purchase decision. It is unfair for someone to spend their money expecting one thing but receiving something of lesser quality.” She says, “Because quality is so important to us at Bellucci, we give our customers the tools to feel confident about choosing us, like traceability capabilities and harvest dates on every bottle to ensure freshness.”
Bellucci Premium offers three different types of oil, including an organic option, with a mild peppery flavor and fruity undertones that will satisfy any palate. Bellucci Premium Toscano extra virgin olive oil uses olives that are grown on the beautiful landscapes of Tuscany, and maintained by 3rd and 4th generation farmers. The third type of oil Bellucci produces is the finest 100% Italian extra virgin olive oil, grown in many different regions of Italy.
