Jammin' With Jay: Concert Honoring Emmy Winner Jay Flippin Features Prominent Area Musicians and Celebrities
(PRWEB) February 24, 2014 -- A free concert featuring members of the Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. big band and other regional musical celebrities to honor one of their own, pianist and composer Jay Flippin, is scheduled for Thursday, February 27th at Smith Recital Hall on the Marshall University campus in Huntington, WV.
“Jammin’ With Jay” is being organized in part by Murphy’s Musical Director Mark Smith. Flippin, a virtuoso pianist and six-time Emmy winner, will perform and any area musician who has played with or is a fan of Flippin’s is encouraged to participate.
“Jay has suffered recent serious health challenges, says that he’s currently feeling well, and wants to keep on playing, so this is a way for us to honor that wish,” says Landau Eugene Murphy Jr.’s manager Burke Allen.
Ritch Collins, who produced Murphy’s hugely successful “Christmas Made For Two” CD, will be performing, and production for the show will be provided by Studimo of Ironton, OH, Landau’s tour production company.
Flippin has performed with a very diverse group of the world’s biggest artists, toured extensively with Count Basie, played piano and recorded with Wilson Pickett, and even penned the famous “We Do Chicken Right” jingle for Kentucky Fried Chicken. He also served for many years on the music faculty at Morehead State University.
The concert is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 27th at Smith Recital Hall on the Marshall University campus.
“The concert is free and open to the public; we encourage lovers of all genres of music to come out for a great night of entertainment honoring Jay, a true local musical legend,” said event co-organizer Smith.
