ZoomCare, the innovative healthcare company that’s building the world's first neighborhood clinic and smartphone based healthcare system, announced today that NPs are now dispensing prescription medications at all ZoomCare neighborhood clinics.
With a focus on ensuring that patients have affordable and convenient access to healthcare, ZoomCare partnered with the Oregon Nurses Association and Oregon Pharmacy Coalition to support legislative changes that enabled NPs to dispense prescription medications at the point of care. The law (SB8) went into effect on January 1, 2014 and follows a 2012 law granting physician assistants the authority to dispense prescription medications. The Nursing Board passed rules to carry out the new law and, this week, authorized the applications of all ZoomCare NPs to dispense.
“Our patients have been raving about the convenience and affordability of getting their medications at the point of care,” said Dave Sanders, M.D., Co-founder and CEO. “Now that NPs have the legal authority to dispense, our patients enjoy quicker and easier access to medications.”
ZoomCare carries over 100 prescription and over-the-counter medications and does not prescribe or carry narcotic pain medications. ZoomCare prohibits pharmaceutical sales representatives and advertising from its clinics since its founding to ensure that patients receive evidence-based care.
