Bart Jones, PT, DPT has been appointed Chairman of the England Authority Board of Commissioners for 2014. Mr. Jones has served on the board since 2009 and is appointed by the City of Alexandria, Louisiana.
After the closure of England Air Force Base in 1992, the England Economic and Industrial Development District (England Authority) was created by the Louisiana Legislature to take over the facility. Working with the Central Louisiana community, the facility has been transformed into a vibrant multimodal commerce center and community. The England Airpark is a 3,000 acre facility with the Alexandria International Airport as its centerpiece. The airport serves the region's commercial aviation needs, carrying passengers to Houston, Dallas and Atlanta hubs. It also serves an important military mission as the Intermediate Staging Base for the Joint Readiness Training Center at Ft. Polk. Over the years, it has hosted troops from all over the world for it's specialized training and has served as a power projection platform, sending military personnel all over the United States and the world.
England Airpark (http://www.englandairpark.org) is also home to over 1 million square feet of commercial space, including warehouse and office space. The Airpark houses about 60 businesses with 2000 employees. It is closely connected to interstate and highway systems as well as rail and waterway access via the Red River. The Airpark has a popular retirement community and general housing as well as a championship golf course, restaurant, hotel, and day care center.
