Trout Stocking Begins Early on Virginia’s Revered Jackson River
Charlottesville, VA (PRWEB) February 24, 2014 -- Fly fishing season along the Jackson River in Bath County, Virginia, is off to a promising start this year as 175 pounds of rainbow trout from the Virginia Trout Company in Monterey were stocked this weekend for Natural Retreats’ private 2 mile stretch of the Jackson River on the Meadow Lane property. A similar stocking will take place every two weeks until the first of June.
“The Jackson River is one of Virginia’s premier trout fisheries, and the two-plus miles of river that flow through Meadow Lane provide an incredibly scenic fly fishing experience without crowds,” said Jonathan Lancaster, Head of US Outfitters for Natural Retreats. “February is a tough time for us fly fishermen – we’ve been cooped up and tying flies for months. These warm weekends are too much to resist, and Natural Retreats is committed to making sure the Jackson River is ready for all those anglers in desperate need of spring relief.”
Fly fishing enthusiasts staying at Natural Retreat’s Meadow Lane Lodge benefit from exclusive access to a private 2.5-mile run of the Jackson River. However, to ensure the privacy of each person’s fly fishing outing, spaces are limited to 8 rods per day. As an everyday promotion throughout the season, guests can combine their fishing expedition with a stay at the Lodge and receive a 50 percent discount on rod fees.
Meadow Lane Lodge, as well as its cottages, are nestled in a one-million acre expanse of Virginia’s Allegheny Highlands – a setting that offers the perfect combination of relaxation and adventure. In addition to fly fishing, guests are able to enjoy miles of managed hiking and biking trails, natural springs, swimming pool, tennis courts, and working farm on the estate’s 1,400 acres.
While guests are drawn to the area because of its pastoral charm, the area is just a few minutes’ drive from the beautifully historic villages of both Warm and Hot Springs, Virginia. The Lodge and cottages, each unique in its setting and personality, are surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty, allowing guests a distinctly peaceful and memorable retreat to the mountains time after time.
Natural Retreats is fast becoming a national leader in outfitting and accommodations for unrivaled fly fishing experiences. In addition to the Jackson River in Virginia, Natural Retreats offers excursions to fish the Snake River in Idaho at the South Fork Lodge, and heli-access fishing throughout millions of acres of the Alaskan wilderness at Tsaina Lodge in Valdez.
“Natural Retreats is proud to offer unrivaled access and Outfitter services at these three iconic destinations,” said Matthew Spence, CEO of Natural Retreats. “Our team envisions its role as guide to life’s most amazing experiences, with a special focus on fly fishing as one of the purest forms of recreation in connection with nature. It is our good fortune to now provide unique experiences in the Blue Ridge, in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, and the true ‘bucket list’ heli-fishing destination of Tsaina Lodge in Valdez, Alaska.”
“Because of our commitment to our guests to create pure connections with the natural environment, we sharply limit the number of fishing expeditions on any given day,” continued Spence. “For those who dream of hooking trout while shoveling out from yet another snowstorm, the time to plan and book adventures for later this spring and summer is now.”
