Playing Tetris aids weight loss, Weightmasters comment on the article
Gatwick, Surrey (PRWEB UK) 24 February 2014 -- The 1984 game Tetris has been revived for weight loss. According to researchers from Plymouth University, playing Tetris keeps cravings at bay for longer periods reports Daily Mail on 21st February 2014. The game distracts the player’s brain so that they do not visualise snacks, alcohol or cigarettes reports the Daily Mail on 21st February 2014.
The research commissioned by Domino’s Pizza, revealed that 24 per cent of the volunteers experienced weaker cravings. According to researchers, PhD student Jessica Skorka-Brown, Professors Jackie Andrade and Jon May, these findings could mean a solution to managing people that struggle with diets.
Professor Andrade stated, “Episodes of cravings normally only last a few minutes, during which time an individual is visualising what they want and the reward it will bring... But by playing Tetris, just in short bursts, you are preventing your brain creating those enticing images and without them the craving fades.” (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2564993/Want-lose-weight-Play-TETRIS-Classic-game-distracts-dieters-food-cravings.html).
Though it may help with weight loss, one in seven gamers confessed to relieving themselves into empty bottles just to avoid having to leave the room.
Following this, Weightmasters comment, “Distraction can be a useful tool to changing one’s habits, including changing your eating habits. Saying this however, although Tetris distracts the individual from reaching for food; it can also encourage a sedentary lifestyle. Achieving a healthy weight, should be about eating the right foods and trying to be more active.”
