Flex-Hone® Technology in Aerospace and Defense Manufacturing; BRM Announces Surface Finishing Solutions, Prepares for AeroDef Event (Booth #554)
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) February 25, 2014 -- Brush Research Manufacturing (BRM), American-owned maker of flexible hones and industrial brushes, is announcing surface finishing solutions that strengthen the aerospace and defense supply chain. BRM’s Flex-Hone® tools are used by defense and aerospace manufacturers to meet surface finishing challenges such as deburring, edge blending, chamfering, and hole polishing.
A flexible, resilient honing tool with a soft cutting action, the Flex-Hone® also helps aerospace and defense manufacturers to automate finishing operations and deliver programs on-time and on-budget. Built with a double-wire metal mounting stem and flexible nylon abrasive filaments, the Flex-Hone® tool mounts in most machine spindles and is available in a wide variety of abrasive types and grit sizes.
Diamond Hones and Chamfer Hones
Diamond Flex-Hone® tools are available in three different mesh sizes instead of grits, and are ideal for surface finishing hard materials such as carbides, ceramics, hardened tool steels, and space age alloys. Available in diameters from 4mm to 20mm, diamond honing tools are also recommended for 302, 304, 416 and 17-4 stainless steels; Hasteloy®, Monel®, and Inconel® 718; and Titanium 6AL-4V.
Flex-Hone® technology includes flexible honing tools with abrasives such as silicon carbide (SC) and boron carbide (BC), as well chamfer hones for edge blending and radiusing. In addition to eliminating time-consuming hand-finishing operations, the Flex-Hone® for Chamfer Blending produces consistent surface finishes from hole to hole and part to part.
Defense and Aerospace Manufacturing
As BRM will explain at the AeroDef Manufacturing Summit and Exhibition, the California company has a long and distinguished history of solving surface finishing challenges. For example, when stress corrosion cracks from machined holes grounded U.S. Navy jet fighters, the Naval Aviation Depot at North Island selected Flex-Hone® tools for machining high-quality holes in aircraft structures.
In addition to supporting the defense supply chain, flexible honing tools are used by civilian aircraft manufacturers, jet engine builders, and aviation MROs. Applications include through-hole edge rounding in engine components, surface finishing of helicopter rotor drive shafts, and deburring the bearing surfaces on hydraulic swivel components.
