The organizers of F+L Week 2014 Conference & Exhibition are proud to announce a Grease Workshop on March 5 that covers base oil fundamentals for grease applications plus grease manufacturing tips. The core of the workshop covers fundamentals about mineral base oil production and trends. This unique workshop offers an overview of the entire oil industry (from crude oil to base oil for grease application), trends within the base oil industry and possibilities for grease formulators.
The week-long event as a whole will provide a platform to engage the various industry stakeholders in serious discussions to address current technical issues and market trends. Among the topics to be covered are the latest developments in base oils, industrial and automotive lubricants, petroleum additives, greases and transportation fuels.
The workshop is particularly designed for people who want an overview of the industry from crude oils to base oils for grease applications. Purchasers, technical and laboratory personnel, as well as newcomers to the industry will find this workshop very useful and informative. Divided into three parts, the workshop will focus on the fundamentals of base oil production; drivers and trends; and introduction to lubricating greases.
The first part of the workshop is designed to provide an overview of the production cycle of mineral base oils. The different processes used in the production of different types of oils will be discussed. The second part covers trends in the global base oil market. The third part will focus on lubricating greases, grease thickeners and manufacturing processes. The impact of different base oils in grease formulations and some typical grease failures in bearing applications also will be discussed.
The workshop will be conducted by grease expert Mehdi Fathi-Najafi, who is senior technical coordinator of Nynas AB in Sweden. Mehdi holds an MSc in Chemical Engineering from Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden. Prior to joining Nynas in 2008, he worked in senior technical positions within the grease industry for 13 years.
