New York, New York (PRWEB) February 26, 2014 -- Today, the editors at NYCTourist.com, (http://www.nyctourist.com), released their list of the best things to do in New York City this March.

March is one of the best times to visit New York City because the weather is better, Broadway is thriving with world-class productions like The Lion King, Mamma Mia, Newsies, Chicago, and Wicked, crowds are smaller, and hotel rates are lower.

“New York City is finally starting to warm up a bit, spring is in the air, and there are a lot more things for tourists to do both indoors and outdoors,” Jamie Carr, editor of NYCTourist.com says. “New York saw more than its fair share of snow this winter, but the snow is beginning to melt which signals spring time is approaching!” Jamie continues, “March is one of the best times to visit New York City because the weather is better, Broadway is thriving with world-class productions like The Lion King, Mamma Mia, Newsies, Chicago, and Wicked, crowds are smaller, and hotel rates are lower.”

The possibilities really are endless, so to help out travelers and locals alike, here’s a list of some great things to do in NYC this March:

1 - St. Patrick’s Day Parade
Travelers spending their St. Patrick’s Day in New York City should definitely check out the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. The oldest and largest parade in the Western Hemisphere, this parade will have more than just the Irish celebrating in NYC. With over 2 million people participating or spectating, travelers should expect to see a ton of green at this event. The parade will march from 44th Street and 5th Avenue to 86th Street in Manhattan, but spectators should note that no alcohol is permitted in public. This event is rowdy nonetheless, so it is advised to not bring children to this event. Visit http://www.nyctourist.com/info_stpats.htm for more information.

2 - Coffee and Tea Festival
Whether a fan of coffee beans or tea leaves, travelers will have an amazing time sampling hundreds of different flavors of coffee and tea at this festival. Featured on The Food Network’s show Unwrapped, the Coffee and Tea Festival hits New York City March 22-23 at 69th Regiment Armory, 68 Lexington Avenue (between 25th - 26th). Caffeine loving travelers should keep in mind that they completely sold out last year, so it is advised to grab tickets as soon as possible. Visit http://www.coffeeandteafestival.com/nyc/tickets.html for tickets.

3 - Visit a Different Kind of Museum This Time...
Travelers who have already visited iconic museums such as the Met, MOMA, Guggenheim, and Museum of Natural History and are looking for something a little different should check out these two hidden gems in the city.

A more family friendly activity in New York City, The Toy Museum of New York, located in Brooklyn at 180 Smith Street, is a unique and entertaining experience for both children and adults. Not only will guests find incredible historic toy exhibits, but the museum features interactive and educational theatre productions with original scripts, professional actors, costumes, and special effects. Queen Marlene’s Toy Theatre offers a variety of original shows, including The History of Toys and Queen Marlene’s Birthday Party. Fun fact: Queen Marlene’s theme song was actually orchestrated by Grammy award winning composers Arthur and Leslie Stead. Visit their website for more information.

Another museum that can’t be missed is the Skyscraper Museum, located in lower Manhattan at 39 Battery Place. The Skyscraper Museum celebrates the iconic architecture of NYC, and the history and individuals who shaped the city’s buildings into what they are today. Their current exhibition, Sky High, is running until April 19, where travelers can learn more about the recent trend of awe-inspiring, pencil-thin, 90 story and above residential luxury towers being built in NYC. Visit their website for more information.

4 - Central Park Zoo
Travelers should take advantage of Central Park in March, as it is less busy and much warmer than it is in January and February. After a stroll through the park, guests can visit the penguins and polar bears at the Central Park Zoo. Much more quaint and intimate than the Bronx Zoo, this zoo is a must see stop for any traveler visiting New York City. Located in the iconic park, this zoo is home to many animals, including the endangered snow leopard! See http://www.nyctourist.com/community/central_park_zoo.htm for more detailed information.

5 - Top of the Rock
Everyone loves the view from the Top of the Rock from romantic couples to school kids on field trips & families from all points outside New York City. Open every day from 8am - 12pm, Top of the Rock boasts a beautiful Observation Deck enabling visitors to see Manhattan and beyond in all directions - day and night, rain or shine. The Top of the Rock Observation Deck is located on the 70th floor of the GE Building in Rockefeller Center in Midtown Manhattan and is very reasonably priced. Visit this page for details, tickets and to access the official website http://www.nyctourist.com/top_nyc_attraction_top_of_the_rock.htm.

NYCTourist.com is one of NYC's most popular travel & tourism sites helping people research & plan travel to New York City since 1997.
