Top Surgeons to Convene for SAGES 2014 Annual Meeting Featuring Breakthroughs in Gastrointestinal, Robotic and Minimally Invasive Surgery - April 2-5 in Salt Lake City
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) February 26, 2014 -- Once a year the world’s top surgeons convene to advance the future of minimally invasive surgery. Hosted by the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), this year’s conference, “Putting the Patient First: Promoting Innovation and Safety in the OR and Beyond,” will continue a long-standing tradition of strong didactic sessions by experts, combined with exploration of innovative technology and medical breakthroughs in the fields of general, upper GI, colorectal, endoscopic, robotic and minimally invasive surgery (MIS). The meeting will be held at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City, UT, April 2nd though April 5th.
“Advancing the quality of surgical care through a better understanding of patient-centered outcomes has been a central goal for SAGES this year and since our founding over 30 years ago,” said Dr. Gerald Fried, SAGES President and Chairman of the Department of Surgery at McGill University.
“The program for 2014 focuses on relevant clinical problems that busy surgeons encounter every day in their respective practices including the management of complications, approaches for reoperative surgical cases, and laparoscopy in the acute care setting,” said Dr. Tonia Young Fadok, SAGES Annual Meeting Program Co-Chair and Chair of the Division of Colon & Rectal Surgery at the Mayo Clinic. “Combining excellent operative care with evidence-based perioperative processes, we can generate the evidence that will move the needle from open to minimally invasive surgery and serve patients best,” added Dr. Jeffrey Marks, SAGES Annual Meeting Program Co-Chair and program director for the Case General Surgery Program and Associate Director of the Surgical Endoscopy Fellowship at Case.
The SAGES 2014 annual meeting is expected to draw more than 2,000 surgeons and allied health professionals and will include hands-on courses and scientific sessions on various advances in MIS and tours of the learning center with new simulators and simulations scenarios. The exhibit hall will feature the latest equipment and instruments in the field, many of which are debuted at the meeting. Additionally, as part of SAGES mission to promote global collaboration and exchange of knowledge, multiple sessions will be webcast to over 21 countries worldwide to over 2,000 participants in partnership with other leading surgical organizations.
A Mini Medical School for high school students, featuring video games that help decrease errors and robotic helicopters, will allow students to show that they have the “right stuff” to join the future ranks of laparoscopic surgeons. The SAGES Military Surgical Symposium will also meet April 3rd and 4th and is the first of its kind to provide a forum for the presentation and discussion of current and ongoing military and military-relevant research, as well as educational topics of relevance to the military surgical community.
Additional conference highlights will include:
