SweetMaterial.com, now has various DIY skirt tutorials, from basic to more advanced guides. Felicia Zanguiabadi launched sweetmaterial.com for anyone who has ever wanted to learn about fashion design and DIY clothes. Her site and YouTube channel offer individuals step-by-step instruction in personal garment production. Felicia announces her basic “How To Make A Skirt Tutorial” is a beginners tutorial which shows you how to draft a skirt pattern using your body measurements. Once viewers have a basic understanding of creating a skirt pattern, they can move on to more intermediate tutorials, such as the peplum skirt or the Clair skirt tutorial.
“DIY clothes is not only rewarding; it gives you control over how to accentuate a ready to wear piece or create an original garment piece of your own,” Felicia commented. Whatever your desire, Felicia has provided YouTube tutorials to show you exactly how to achieve it. For instance, easier segments include embellishing clothes with jewels, deconstructing a denim jacket or transforming your boyfriend’s sweatshirt. For the more adventurous, Felicia provides an opportunity to sew a summer dress by hand. In the 19-minute video, Felicia uses a Burda Pattern to create a beautiful sweetheart dress. The video is currently ranked on YouTube’s first page. Garment finishes are also included in her channel, such as “How to Sew an Invisible Zipper,” via hemming a skirt or attaching a lining to a skirt. She has also included draping tutorials for the design enthusiast, as well as easy to follow segments to help beginners. Her segments are meant to teach, inspire and create DIY clothes.
“You don’t need a degree to create your own clothes,” says Zanguiabadi. “However, you do need raw talent and a desire to apply yourself and learn the craft independently. Learning how to create your own clothes or modifying existing pieces has never been easier.”
Fashion reality shows such as Project Runway and Fashion Star have stirred, enticed and inspired viewers to explore their own creativity. SweetMaterial.com is a part of that growing trend, and provides relevant and substantial help and information to all of those who love fashion and have a passion to become a part of it.
Felicia Zanguiabadi attended the Fashion Institute and has interned with world-renowned fashion designer Vera Wang. Determined to share her knowledge with others, she developed tutorials for sewing, draping, and designing garment pieces. Within a short amount of time, her videos were positioned among the top ten YouTube instructional videos. In November 2013 she also expanded her format to include easy-to-follow makeup tutorials.
