Social Workers Emphasize Leadership This Month As Care Partners In Healthcare
Belleville, IL (PRWEB) March 05, 2014 -- Collaboration and leadership are critical roles for social workers who play instrumental roles in the increasingly complex realm of healthcare, according to the Society for Social Work Leadership in Health Care (SSWLHC). During National Social Work Month in March, Allsup, a nationwide provider of Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) representation, veterans disability appeal and Medicare plan selection services, joins with the SSWLHC to recognize the important role of social workers in the U.S. healthcare system.
“Social workers are vital in leading models of care in primary care, chronic disease management, emergency room care and other aspects of healthcare for patients and their families,” said Shawna Grossman Kates, MSW, MBA, CMAC, president of the SSWLHC.
“Whether they’re helping patients and families navigate their way through facility-based care or developing care plans for transition to coordinated care and community-based programs, social workers have a pivotal role in the medical community,” Kates said. “Working with nationally recognized organizations like Allsup helps reinforce the expertise of social workers and the importance of patient advocacy. Allsup is a true partner.”
Ongoing educational and professional development is instrumental to creating leaders in the social work profession. The SSWLHC emphasizes achieving career excellence through its services to members, including continuing education, conferences and chapter resources.
The theme of the SSWLHC 49th Annual Meeting & Conference is, “The Wide Lens of Social Work Practice Across the Health Care Continuum.” Social work professionals from across the country will gather in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Nov. 5-8, 2014. Sessions will cover a range of issues for professionals working across the spectrum of healthcare settings.
During March, Allsup celebrates social workers for their efforts to apply their expertise, knowledge and skills to benefit their patients and the healthcare organizations they serve.
