CareLex, an open source health sciences bioinformatics company, announced the appointment of Jennifer Alpert Palchak as CEO. Alpert Palchak has previously served on CareLex’s advisory board and will assume CEO responsibilities immediately.

“Clinical trials today require sponsors, CRO’s, research organizations, and vendors across the globe to collaborate and share clinical trial content, yet clinical trial data is often stored in incompatible systems, creating data silos that increase cost and complexity in the clinical trials process,” noted Alpert Palchak, “Our work at CareLex will help the industry overcome this problem. Through industry collaboration, CareLex is focused on promoting development of standards-based structured formats for content exchange to seamlessly share clinical trial content online, offline or via the cloud in order to streamline clinical trial content management processes.”

One of the first initiatives Alpert Palchak will focus on is CareLex’s founding role in development of a global technical standard for clinical trials data interoperability. The proposed standard, called the OASIS eTMF Standard, will focus on replacing paper based clinical trial processes with electronic processes. Members of the OASIS eTMF technical committee include CareLex, Forte Research Systems, Health Level Seven, Mayo Clinic, Oracle Health Sciences, Paragon Solutions, SafeBiopharma Association, and SureClinical, among others.

“SafeBiopharma and CareLex share a vision for paperless clinical trials, and CareLex is going to be an organization to watch. CareLex will surely thrive with Jennifer’s leadership,” noted Dr. Peter Alterman, COO of SafeBiopharma Association.

“During this time of transformation, there is no better person to lead CareLex than Jennifer Alpert Palchak,” said Zack Schmidt, CareLex’s Founder, Member of the Board of Directors and CEO of SureClinical. “Jennifer is a proven leader with healthcare and life science industry skills, business vision and the ability to bring people together. Her vision for how technology will be used to transform the BioPharma industry from manual paper-based processes toward interoperable systems is exactly what CareLex needs as the organization continues to serve industry with expanded technology research and educational initiatives.”

Alpert Palchak has served in various executive positions in which she led the growth of start-up companies, in both the for-profit and not-for-profit sectors. In her founding role at VARIS, a healthcare technology company centered on the ICD coding methodology, Alpert Palchak led business development and marketing nation-wide. Most recently, Alpert Palchak served as founding executive director of PRIDE Industries Foundation, building a comprehensive philanthropic operation. Former positions also include CEO of Alpert Consulting and Executive Director of Mercy Foundation’s philanthropic operations for Mercy Hospital of Folsom and Mercy San Juan Hospital.
