Heidel House Resort & Spa Manager Touches Lives of Kenyans
Green Lake, WI (PRWEB) February 28, 2014 -- Heidel House Resort & Spa’s food and beverage director returned this week from a trip to Uyoma village in Kenya, where he surprised the residents with an unfortunately scarce basic need: shoes.
Gereson Yongo, originally from Uyoma, Kenya, delivered more than 50 pairs of shoes to village children and elderly while on a trip home to visit his mother and father in February, 2014. He collected the shoes from co-workers, family and friends throughout Wisconsin prior to his departure.
The villagers were touched by his gifts.
“I grew up the same way; without anything,” said Yongo. “I lived with these people and I understand what they go through every day. It is incredibly rewarding to be there for the less fortunate and give back to my home country; bring a smile to their faces. Their gratitude is overwhelming.”
This is not the first contribution Yongo has made to Uyoma. During a month-long visit in 2012, he assisted in the building of a house for a village family. His endeavors are known as Project Yongo, with the mission of providing maximum basic necessities, educational opportunities and economic growth to the village.
Yongo joined the Heidel House Resort & Spa management team in August, 2013. Prior to this, he was the assistant food and beverage director at the Seaport Boston Hotel. Yongo has held food and beverage management positions at the Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst, N.C. and Sea Island Company in Sea Island, Ga. His international experience spans across Africa, the Middle East, Caribbean and United States. Yongo currently resides with his wife and children in Green Lake, Wis.
