Bill Howe Plumbing began as a father and son operation in 1980. They opened the doors of a small studio apartment and began what is now a well-established, low cost, family owned San Diego plumbing company, with three divisions serving the needs of heating & air conditioning and restoration and flood services. For over 34 years, Bill Howe Family of Companies has consistently progressed forward improving services offered as well as the internal structure of the company.
Amber Baynard, former Operations Manager, spent 2013 in the Human Resources Management Certificate Program through the San Diego Employment Association in order to transition into her new role as the head of the Human Resources Department in 2014. Amber is San Diego plumber, Bill Howe’s niece and she has been an integral part of successfully retaining the small “family operation” the local community has come to rely on since 1980. She began her career with Bill Howe Plumbing in 1997 as a part-time file clerk and customer service representative. After implementation of new software, that she helped train all staff on, it became apparent she was an invaluable asset and was hired on full time.
Since 1997, Baynard has worked in virtually every position at the San Diego plumbing Company and has used this experience as an advantage in Human Resources. “HR was the last part of the corporation that I was unfamiliar with, said Amber Baynard, Human Resources Manager. “I am excited for the opportunity and believe that it is a position best served with my intimate knowledge of the company and culture over the last 17 years.”
The restructuring of the Human Resources Department brings a clear channel of communication within the company and a direct place in which all employees can direct questions and needs. The implementation of dedicated HR also allows the company to stay abreast of the ever-changing laws that affect everything from wages, benefits, and on the job safety to the hot button topic that affects everyone across the country, health care.
