The new minor will provide students the opportunity to develop an understanding and knowledge base of the criminal justice field in addition to studies within their majors.

The Cazenovia College Board of Trustees has approved the addition of a Criminal Justice minor to the College’s overall curriculum. This minor will provide students the opportunity to develop an understanding and knowledge base of the criminal justice field in addition to studies within their majors. The minor will be available to students beginning in the fall of 2014.

According to Cazenovia College’s Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Sharon Dettmer, “Many of our students, in majors ranging from psychology to business, from management to human services, and more have expressed an interest in obtaining the minor in Criminal Justice to expand their knowledge in an area related to their majors or simply to explore an area for which they have special interests.”

This new minor bolsters the already popular major in Criminal Justice and Homeland Security Studies that is offered at Cazenovia College, which provides students with the tools they need to enter into a career in the expanding field of law enforcement, the emerging area of homeland security, or to pursue a graduate degree or attend law school. The program has a rigorous curriculum taught by dedicated faculty uniquely qualified in their academic disciplines. The goals of the program are grounded in providing the students with an understanding of the various components and processes of the criminal justice system; the role of the various justice and law enforcement agencies involved in homeland security; international and domestic terrorism and how to respond to and prevent terroristic action; the theories of crime causation and criminal behavior and how they have influenced policy and procedure within the criminal justice system; and the ethical and moral issues inherent in the criminal justice system.
