Morgan & Morgan Announces Opening of Nashville Office and Welcomes Former Lieff Cabraser Attorney Kathryn E. Barnett as Managing Partner
Nashville, Tennessee (PRWEB) February 28, 2014 -- Morgan & Morgan is proud to announce that with the upcoming opening of its new Nashville location, the firm will welcome former Lieff Cabraser attorney Kathryn E. Barnett as the office’s managing partner.
“Kathryn is a nationally recognized trial lawyer whose verdicts and results for her clients are legendary,” said the founder of Morgan & Morgan, John Morgan. “We hope to join her in bringing a new level of justice to the people of Nashville.”
Though an official address for the firm’s second Tennessee-based office has yet to be decided, Barnett's enthusiasm in bringing her talents and impressive resume to one of the nation's premier plaintiffs' law firms cannot be understated.
“I am excited to help bring Morgan & Morgan's highly successful business model to Middle Tennessee, and to offer the backing of such a substantial firm to those seeking justice,” Barnett said. “Morgan & Morgan understands you have to be willing to try cases if you want to hold wrongdoers accountable. The firm gets it—we are fighting for justice and we deliver victory.”
Barnett views joining Morgan & Morgan, with its roster of high-profile trial attorneys and reputation for putting plaintiffs' rights above all else, as a perfect union of both her well-documented talents and intensity in the courtroom, and the firm's equally relentless commitment to protecting clients' rights.
“I have been taking on giant insurance companies and corporations who have done wrong for nearly two decades, and it is not for the faint-hearted,” Barnett said. “Morgan & Morgan is known for its fearlessness and muscle-power, making the firm a perfect fit for my skills.”
According to Barnett, the attorneys in the firm’s new Nashville office will practice primarily in the areas of personal injury and complex litigation. Barnett, who was a managing partner of her former employer’s Nashville office, has a wealth of experience and success—on top of a long list of national and local awards and recognitions— handling complex litigation and class actions at both the state and federal levels.
In addition to past honors that include being named to U.S. News and World Report's “Best Lawyers in America” list, “Best of the Bar” by the Nashville Business Journal, and Business Tennessee's “Best Lawyers in Tennessee” list, Barnett has had the privilege of litigating numerous high-profile cases. Among her numerous notable accomplishments in court, Barnett last year won a $26 million jury verdict on behalf of a family who filed a wrongful death lawsuit* against two multi-billion dollar corporations. Previously, in 2010, Barnett helped a business recover an $8 million award in arbitration** against its former partner.
In one of her more publicized cases, Barnett served as lead trial counsel in a class action lawsuit*** in the multi-district litigation against Tri-State Crematory that alleged the company mishandled the remains of more than 300 bodies. According to court documents, it was alleged the crematory, which regularly received bodies from funeral homes throughout Alabama, Tennessee, and Georgia, had been “foregoing cremations and passing off wood chips and other substances” as ashes of the deceased. Both of the cases, according to court records, settled well into trial, resulting in combined recoveries of more than $120 million.
Though the list of her accomplishments may seem like a fruitful career for any attorney, Barnett realizes that, in joining Morgan & Morgan, her work has just begun.
“We want to assemble the best team to position Morgan & Morgan Nashville to be the leader among plaintiff's firms in the city,” Barnett acknowledged, adding that she would also like the firm to be other attorneys' first call when referring cases of any size.
“One of the highest compliments a lawyer can give is referring a case to another attorney,” Barnett said, “and I want us to be the firm that attorneys would entrust their closest friends and family to if someone dear needed help.”
