February 21, 2014 -ASTORIA, NY – In an effort to make Mardi Gras more festive for students attending the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Charter School for Science and Technology located in New Orleans’ Lower Ninth Ward, Jonathan Glatt, Chief Executive Officer of Astoria-based Private Island Entertainment, LLC (http://www.privateislandparty.com), has donated Private Island Party products as part of his ongoing philanthropic endeavors.

According to Glatt, “We are continuing to support their efforts and recognize that the difficulties from Hurricane Katrina are still not over. This is one way to help celebrate in their success.”

Students at the school range from Pre-K to the 12th grade. The school graduated its first class in May 2012 as it continued on its path to recovery. “Our mission is to create and maintain an orderly, trusting environment where teach and learning are innovative and exciting; where students are taught to read, write, compute, and think critically, according to their fullest potential,” said school spokeswoman Sylvia Ellison.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the staff, parents and community defied all odds by rebuilding and reopening. The school has added a grade each year. Many of those students graduating decided to forgo leaving their elementary school to help establish a high school in an area ravished by the storm, she pointed out.

As part of his philanthropic endeavors, Glatt recently donated masquerade accessories and other items for Ahava Unveiled, a masquerade fundraiser for young professionals sponsored by the New York-based Bnai Zion Foundation.
