In collaboration with Wood-Mizer LLC, the Department of Forestry and Natural Resources at Purdue University is sponsoring "Hardwood Lumber: Producing, Using and Selling" workshops throughout Indiana this April. The workshop is open for those involved in or who want to learn about the wood and lumber industry and will discuss lumber grading, sawing patterns, drying, selling and marketing wood products.
Dan Cassens, Professor of Wood Products at Purdue University and author of the book 'Manufacturing and Marketing Eastern Hardwood Lumber Produced by Thin Kerf Band Mills', will be instructing these educational workshops. A Wood-Mizer portable sawmill owner since 1995, Cassens will include classroom education as well as a live demonstration of his LT40 Hydraulic sawmill during the workshop.
“The hardwood industry is composed of a very diverse group of individuals that produce timber and continue to add value until a wood product finally ends up available to an individual consumer or an industrial user,” said Cassens. “Wood and lumber is what connects this diverse group together. The purpose of this one day workshop is to provide information about lumber production, its proper handling and use.”
