Dr. Emad Guirguis, head cosmetic surgeon at Lakeview Surgery Centre in Barrie, announces NaturalTuck™, a new tummy tuck protocol that he has developed to improve the rate of recovery and reduce scarring.

“Abdominoplasty is typically a more invasive cosmetic procedure that can involve drains, an extensive scar and long recovery period. In addition, we often hear from people that drains are the worst part of the procedure, so I've worked to make them unnecessary,” Dr. Emad Guirguis, head cosmetic surgeon on the centre states. “I modified the traditional form of abdominoplasty to make it less traumatic to the patient, thereby improving recovery time and scarring. I also concentrated on improving the results, making them more natural in appearance.”

The NaturalTuck™ is a form of tummy tuck, technically referred to as abdominoplasty. It involves a number of advanced surgical techniques:

In traditional methods, drains are used to get rid of excess fluids that can build up following surgery. However, to prevent the use of drains, tissues are repositioned and an advanced suturing technique is used to eliminate spaces where excess fluids may develop (that could lead to complications). As a result, patients undergoing the NaturalTuck™ do not need drains following surgery.

Reconstruction of the umbilicus is done in a manner that its natural three dimensional shape is preserved, allowing for a better result.

The "Seven Day Second Skin Bandage" is used to maintain a sterile environment for incisions, reducing the risk of infection. This also minimizes the appearance of scarring.

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, there were 111,986 tummy tuck procedures performed in 2013, showing an increase of 5% over the previous year. Most patients who undergo a tummy tuck do so to address sagging skin, excess subcutaneous fat and weakened abdominal muscles resulting from multiple pregnancies, massive weight loss and aging.
