ELGA Credit Union Will Award $1000 to Local High School Art Department
Flint, Michigan (PRWEB) March 05, 2014 -- ELGA Credit Union, headquartered in Burton, Michigan provided the opportunity for young artists to showcase their “graffiti style” creative abilities. Four area schools, Powers, Southwestern, Hamady and Carmen-Ainsworth participated in the event. “We not only wanted to showcase the talents of our creative youth, but help local high school art classes in our community,” stated Karen Church CEO of ELGA Credit Union.
This past winter, VG’s closed their Flint Store on Corunna road. It became necessary for ELGA to block out their branch from the rest of the store, while a new location was being completed in the same complex. “This provided a wonderful opportunity for us to work with the schools and students,” continues Church. ELGA provided each school with four, 4’ x 8’ plastic canvases along with the funds to purchase paint. Each finished, combined project became a 16’ x 32’ “graffiti style” masterpiece. The rules where simple: come up with your own design and use ELGA “value” words in your theme. Students were given ninety-days to complete their project.
All of the artwork will be displayed at the ELGA Flint Branch at 5080 Corunna Road, Flint, March 1st through March 15th. Members and visitors are invited to stop by and view the art during regular business hours 10am – 7pm Monday-Friday, 10am-4pm Saturday or 11am-3pm on Sunday. You will also have the opportunity to view the finished designs on ELGA’s Facebook Graffiti Contest Page and vote for your favorite design. “We are inviting everyone to come in and see these pieces up close, the student artists did an awesome job!” adds Church.
ELGA’s Facebook page is the only way to vote for your favorite art designs, and will be held through Saturday, March 15th. On Monday, March 17th, the winning students “graffiti style” art will be selected and the school’s art department will be awarded $1000 from ELGA Credit Union.
“We are so excited for everyone to experience the talent found right here in our community. ELGA is proud to provide this great opportunity for these students to showcase their talents and help out their school,” says Church.
Established in 1951, ELGA Credit Union currently services the needs of over 45,000 with nine locations serving Genesee, Lapeer, and Oakland Counties.
