Dan Savage’s College Tour Makes a Stop at Centenary
Shreveport, LA (PRWEB) March 03, 2014 -- Centenary College’s Psychology Department will host co-founder of the It Gets Better Project®, Dan Savage Wednesday, March 12, for a presentation and Q&A session. Savage is best known for his internationally syndicated sex and relationship advice column, Savage Love, and is also an author, media pundit, and journalist. This ticketed event is open to the public.

Savage is the Editorial Director of Seattle’s weekly alternative newspaper, The Stranger. His writing has appeared in a number of publications including The New York Times, The New York Times Magazine, GQ, Rolling Stone, and The Onion.
He is also the author of American Savage: Insights, Slights and Fights on Faith, Sex, Love, and Politics; Savage Love; The Kid: What Happened When My Boyfriend and I Decided to Get Pregnant; and co-author of How to be a Person.
In addition to appearances on CNN, MSNBC, and The Colbert Report, Savage has also contributed to Ira Glass’s This American Life, and has appeared on NPR’s Fresh Air with Terry Gross, HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher, and ABC's 20/20. He is a frequent and popular speaker on college campuses across the nation and Canada.
In 2010, Savage and his husband created a YouTube video to inspire hope for LGBT young people facing harassment in response to students taking their own lives. Today, the It Gets Better Project® has become a global movement, inspiring more than 50,000 It Gets Better videos viewed over 50 million times. The It Gets Better book, co-edited by Savage, was published in March 2011, and two It Gets Better documentary specials have aired on MTV. In 2012, the It Gets Better Project received the Governors Award Emmy from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
Savage’s presentation is part of an ongoing series at Centenary that explores human sexuality. His visit follows the performances and Q&A session from two female impersonators and precedes a convocation by Dr. William Yarber of the Kinsey Institute who will present To Hook Up, or Not to Hook Up - Healthy Sexuality in the College Student on March 25.
In addition to the Psychology Department, Savage’s presentation is sponsored by Student Involvement, Centenary Activities Board, Diversity Committee, and Convocations Committee.
