Rider for Minnesota-Based Snowboard Store Wins Gold in Sochi for Women's Halfpipe
St. Paul, MN (PRWEB) March 04, 2014 -- Kaitlyn Farrington didn't plan this.
Unlike some Olympic contestants who plan out epic Olympic journeys and carry childhood dreams of winning gold medals into adulthood, Farrington was simply riding life's edge up until her gold medal win. While representing her sponsor The House with pure class and style, she started her Olympic journey by acquiring the last qualifying spot in California and ended it by winning an undreamt-of gold in Sochi, Russia. It was an unprecedented and unexpected journey that can be summed up in two words.
"Cowgirl Up!"
According to a Denver Post article, Farrington, a former swimmer and horse racer, was always told by her swim coach to "cowgirl up" before a big competition. And that's exactly what she did in Sochi. Competing next to Kelly Clark, winner of the 2002 halfpipe gold, and earning 91.75 points for the win, Farrington focused heavily on the pipe below and less on the ceremonial medal ahead. Combining extreme focus and skill with a modest "it's-anyone's-game" mindset, she turned everyone else's dream into her own reality.
"It's crazy. Snowboarding is changing so much, it's anyone's game on any day. I didn't think I was going to get a gold medal until right now," she told the Denver Post after saying she had not been harboring any "Olympic gold medal dream."
"It has been great helping Kaitlyn through the competitive pipeline over the years," said Matt Gustafson, in-house snowboard expert at The House. "Everyone at The House feels beyond blessed to know we've assisted her growth as a competitor on the world stage. Kaitlyn's gold medal win at the Sochi Olympics Women's Halfpipe shows us that ups and downs were worth every second and we look forward to continuing a great relationship."
