The grocery store, located in Long Island, has been a consistent contender for FMS’s Store of the Month award, winning it once in 2012, and again in 2013. This consistent ability to maintain sales growth month after month, as well as providing its community with a positive alternative to a big-store format was what made Locust Valley Market the clear-cut winner in 2013.

Locust Valley Market storeowner, David Mandell stated, “This is our fifth year of running the store, and now it’s really hit its stride. Before we took over, the previous owners had been running the store so poorly for so long, there was a lot of negativity within the community to overcome. But in these past five years, we’ve made a lot of inroads with the community and showed them that we’re doing things right and we’re here to stay. We’ve been able to turn that negative will into positive will.”
