New Startup Aims to Ease Concerns with Security Features

The one stop hub for everything college.

We believe in the goodwill of people, but can’t ignore the ongoing crimes committed through classified listings websites.

This Monday, Dallas based startup, The College Connect will launch it’s college oriented classifieds listings website. As details of the Craigslist serial killer, Miranda Barbour’s murders are released, safety concerns related to classified listings websites are on the rise (CNN,02/08/2014). The College Connect aims to alleviate this problem by implementing new security features in it’s classified listings website.

Miranda Barbour is just one of many known killers who used popular classified listings website, Craigslist to find victims for their horrific acts of violence . Each year we hear of more and more crimes committed through Craigslist and other classified listings websites due to the lack of accountability and user validation.

The College Connect is a classifieds listings website created primarily for college and higher education students. The Dallas based startup proclaims itself as “The one stop go-to hub for everything college” connecting students to one another, allowing them to find anything they might need. From textbooks to weekend gigs to on-campus study groups or even a job, The College Connect has it all.

Due to growing concerns for user safety, The College Connect has rolled out a verification system that verifies the identities of its users. The Dallas based startup encourages its members to link their Facebook or Twitter accounts for further trust building and accountability. “We believe in the goodwill of people, but can’t ignore the ongoing crimes committed through classified listings websites.” said Khaled Ramadan, CEO and founder. “That’s why we've implemented new security features in our infrastructure. Not only are we helping students find anything they need but we're also keeping them safe in the process. That’s what makes us different.”

The College Connect will launch with 300 of the most prestigious and populated schools and plans to expand to all 4000+ higher education institutes in the US by the end of the 2014.
