After four deployments with the Air Force, Keith McCray was ready to find a career that would allow him to be home with his family. Although he loved the military and enjoyed his jobs in the private sector, he was ready to work for himself and have a flexible schedule. That’s when he found The Growth Coach.

“When I came back from my last deployment, I decided to open my own business and I found The Growth Coach through VetFran. It was exactly what I was looking for – a franchise that would give me the opportunity to help small businesses and make a positive impact,” McCray said.

The Growth Coach, the #1 business and sales coaching franchise in the country for 2013, according to Entrepreneur Magazine, is dedicated to helping business leaders, small business owners, sales people, self-employed professionals and others find success at work and balance in life.

McCray just opened The Growth Coach of Virginia Beach to serve the Virginia Beach and Chesapeake areas. He’s especially looking forward to working with small business owners. Previous to opening The Growth Coach, McCray spent more than 20 years in the Air Force, including eight years in the reserves, and continues to serve in the reserves as a Commander of a maintenance squadron. He’s also worked for a variety of small, medium and large Fortune 500 companies.

“I have a tremendous amount of respect for individuals willing to take huge risks to open their own business and I’m always disappointed when I see a company going out of business. Often times the business owner had a great idea or service, but didn’t understand how to be an owner – especially a strategic owner,” McCray said. “I know with my experience and The Growth Coach’s Strategic Mindset Process, I will be able to help business owners succeed and make their businesses surpass their goals.”

The Growth Coach was founded in 2003, but the company’s leaders have a 20-year track record of successful business coaching. Recently, the franchise was included in the Bond’s Top 100 Franchises and has been recognized in Entrepreneur Magazine’s “Franchise 500,” “Best of the Best” and “Top Home-Based Business” listings. While most of the coaching is delivered through affordable group workshops, owners also provide one-to-one coaching, remote coaching delivered via phone and web, and special projects.

In addition to the services he’ll be able to provide as a Growth Coach, McCray also wants to be seen as an ambassador for the businesses he’s working with. He wants to be there every step of the way.

“I am genuinely passionate about helping others to be successful and I want people to know that I will do whatever it takes to help them succeed. A lot of small business owners feel like they are on their own – and there are so many negative people out there who bring them down – but it’s all about having the right focus and tools. You may hit a wall every now and then, but you can be successful,” McCray said.

“When I was in the military, one of my strongest traits was my ability to see the big picture and break it down to be less overwhelming and much more achievable. That’s something I think my Growth Coach clients will see too. No matter how tough a job looks, you can solve it if you break it into smaller pieces,” he said.

Alan Stokely, owner and president of Talan Asset Status Solutions, Inc., said McCray would be a wonderful asset to any company looking to make positive changes in both daily and long-term operations.

“Keith takes a genuine interest in you and your business and he never takes a one-size-fits-all approach. He really has a passion for helping people and it’s evident in every conversation we have. That honestly makes a huge difference when it comes to having someone work with your business,” Stokely said.

McCray has been married to Faye (Bernardino) McCray for 10 years and the couple has four children. The family is excited to be settled down in Virginia Beach and serving such a great community.
