ArtSchools.com Discusses the Nationwide Effort to Expand Arts Education in 14 Cities
Bohemia, NY (PRWEB) March 06, 2014 -- ArtSchools.com, a directory of the top art colleges in America, discusses a new program that links 14 city school districts with local art groups to help improve arts education.
According to a February 18th article posted on ABC 13 titled “Schools in 14 Cities Work To Expand Arts Education,” budget cuts have severely harmed arts education efforts in many different school districts across the nation. The article says art leaders, along with school district officials, from Sacramento, Calif. to Baltimore, MD met in Washington to discuss initiatives in the “Ensuring the Arts for Any Given Child” program run by the Kennedy Center of the Arts. The program, which launched in 2009, currently services about 1 million students from K-8.
Andrew Girard, a representative at ArtSchools.com, says this program is essential for the survival of arts education in public schools. “Programs like this are extremely beneficial to the arts community,” he says. “It is very important that students learn the basics of art in school. It has been shown to improve cognitive and analytical skills, which benefits children later on in life. It can also help them improve communication skills, something that is essential in all aspects of life. Programs like this help keep the arts alive amidst widespread budget cuts. Hopefully more cities will realize the benefits of art and follow suit.”
