STRM Capital Wins CTA Intelligence 2014 Best Newcomer Award
New York, NY (PRWEB) March 11, 2014 -- STRM Capital Management has won the 2014 Best Newcomer Award from the influential international hedge funds magazine, CTA Intelligence and has been featured as one its 2014 “12 hottest funds” in managed futures.
The CTA Intelligence awards are based on a 'peer review system' in which readers elect a 'best in class' in a series of categories via an online survey. In each category, the firms with the most votes at the end of the voting period are subject to a final review by the HFM Weekly and CTA Intelligence senior editorial teams.
Co-Founders Lawrence Rascio and Mark Shukovsky accepted the award at a ceremony in New York on Thursday, February 27.
"This award for STRM Capital is a tremendous honor considering the vast amount of talent in our field,” said STRM Capital Co-Founder and Principal, Larry Rascio. "More importantly, for Mark and I this award is a validation of our investment processes, unique research methods and the hard work we've put into this organization. Of course we also share this honor with our investors since it is them for whom we really work.
The award caps a successful year for STRM Capital in which the firm realized a 15.82% net return with standout returns in May and June of 3.40% and 5.44% net returns respectively. Since its launch in March of 2013 with $2.25mm of partner’s money STRM Capital has grown to just under $60mm as of March 1, 2014 , a rather impressive accomplishment in an environment where many of its competitors struggled. “Our philosophy is simple, focus on returns and returns only. We opted to start with just our own money first because we knew that our models and methods were robust and institutional ready. Focus on returns and the rest will fall into place”, said Mr. Rascio. This increase was based on significant investment demand for new managers with new ideas and methods.
"Mark Shukovsky, Principal/co-founder said “Our systematic programs are designed to exploit many of the structural inefficiencies brought about by three factors: the still to be determined impacts of central bank policies; global political wrangling; and, general macro-economic uncertainty. We believe that this market dynamic will persist at least over the next decade. What I believe sets us apart from others in our space is that our models evolve and are designed to recognize and avoid all known event risk as well as the risks associated with a potential market paradigm shift,” he said.
“Systematic trading offers discipline, reliability and diversification but only those who can effectively blend the human and systematic components of trading will have a clear advantage. This is why our model design process always begins with real world observations whose characteristics can be explained and rationalized. Our simplicity gives us an edge. Why reinvent the wheel? We take already accepted tools and principles of technical analysis and modify them through our proprietary research methods to derive a portion of our edge," Mr. Rascio added.
