Chiropractic and Tae Kwon Do: Ancient Healing Arts that Enhance Overall Health
Lafayette, In (PRWEB) March 10, 2014 -- She started practicing Tae Kwon Do when she was 5-years-old because her father wanted to be sure that she could protect herself. Then it became a means for her to earn a living. Along the way, she saw how the art and discipline of this ancient profession helped kids deal with issues.
“I love to see the children’s personalities change,” Dr. Mijin (MJ) Kim said. “Some kids were lying all the time or crying all the time, or they were shy or didn’t play well with others and I helped change their lives through the art and discipline of Tae Kwon Do.” Kim taught all ages at the American Air Force base in Korea for 5 years.
“I remember another kid who had lost their parents and he needed a lot of attention, so it wasn’t just about the Tae Kwon, there were lots of hugs,” she said. Because she enjoyed caring for people, she decided to learn sports massage. After a low back injury, her mom encouraged her to see a chiropractor. Seeing the results from this care, led her further along her path in the health care profession.
“I looked into it more because I saw it not only as a solution for pains,” Kim said, “but also a way to help people’s overall health just like I had seen in Tae Kwon Do. Many [people] think that Tae Kwon Do is about just one thing – discipline or the art or the sport – just like many think chiropractic is just about dealing with pain. Both are so much more.”
After working in a Davenport, Iowa clinic, Kim joined Dr. Cherie Goble at the new AlignLife Chiropractic location in Lafayette, IN last fall. She is enjoying the multi-cultural aspects of the Greater Lafayette area and plans to bring her Tae Kwon Do experience to this area. Kim plans to host a workshop in the summer for kids. “I will teach them how to break the board with their hands and break through some of their fears at the same time.
