Woodloch Pines Resort Commences “Operation Cookie Drop”
Hawley, PA (PRWEB) March 06, 2014 -- Once again, one of life’s most valuable lessons is presented to us through the actions of our children.
Scouts visiting Woodloch Pines Resort in Hawley, Pennsylvania this season have found a way to make a difference, even as they are on vacations of their own.
Woodloch Pines Resort located in Hawley, PA opened in 1958 as a picturesque Pocono escape for families. Since then, the business has expanded to entertain corporate retreats, golfers, class trips and even scout groups. Several hundred scouts will make it through their doorways in the coming weeks.
Synonymous with the Girl Scouts are their fundraising efforts involving cookies. As the group sizes increase year after year, the girls were kind enough to distribute extra boxes to the Poconos resort's staff. The response became so substantial that the staff recognized an opportunity to help out others. Woodloch has always shown support for the military, through discounts in their “Hero Club” and the construction of “The Hero Room,” which showcases memorabilia of civil servants. Thus, Operation Cookie Drop was born.
“We wanted to give back to those who aren’t necessarily home with us right now,” says Joey Ranner, Social Director at the all-inclusive family resort. “Through our cookie collection, soldiers serving to protect us overseas will be treated to a comforting reminder of home, and everything they are working to protect.”
After earning special badges and vying for Woodloch medals in social activities like Winter Olympics, “Take the Cake,” and Scavenger Hunt, the girls are welcome to donate cookies to the cause. Additionally, cookies are available for purchase at the family resort to any non-scouts wishing to donate them as thanks.
“The response has been great so far,” says Ranner. “Not even midway through the season and we’ve filled our ‘drop crate’ twice already.” A mailbox stationed in the lobby is already stuffed to the brim with personal thank you letters from guests. At the end of the season, every last Thin Mint, Samoa and Do-Si-Do will be sent overseas.
“They’re small tokens of gratitude, but it’s a great way for all of us to start,” says Ranner. “I have to smile every time we start initiatives like this. Our guests, scouts and non-scouts alike, spring into action and share that Woodloch warmth with others. Watching a plan unfold firsthand reminds me of how fortunate I am to work for such an amazing company.”
