ADD Inc Brings Modern Design and Amenities To New University Plaza Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Facility in Miami’s Healthcare District
Miami, Florida (PRWEB) March 10, 2014 -- Situated in the heart of Miami’s healthcare district and designed by the award-winning architecture and design firm ADD Inc in Miami, the new four-story, 148-bed University Plaza Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center is now open.
The facility, with modern private and semi-private rooms, restaurant-style dining, wellness gym, hydrotherapy pool, computer room and beauty salon, is dedicated to offer both quality long-term residential care and therapy treatment programs for seniors and boomers. Part of the Plaza Health Network, a not-for-profit network of nine rehabilitation and nursing centers throughout Miami-Dade County, University Plaza is located at 724 N.W. 19th Street, next to its sister center Jackson Plaza.
“The University Plaza Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center will showcase where the design of future nursing facilities is headed,” said lead architect Rachel Cardello, Principal, ADD Inc. “In an effort to look less institutional, we implemented more of a hotel feel with attractive and contemporary design yet comfortable with state-of-the-art rehabilitative services,” added Cardello.
ENTRANCE/FIRST FLOOR:
Beginning with the University Plaza’s entrance, ADD Inc added a 15-foot tall entry canopy that provides shading and protection in the passenger drop-off area. Artistic sandstone pavers with black river stone accents and lush landscaping lead directly to the lobby, with the main reception desk combining dark wood, a vein-cut marble countertop, and frosted colored glass paneling.
The first floor includes a beauty/barber room offering hair care and grooming, open rehabilitation areas, hydrotherapy spa pool room with natural-colored tile, therapy treatment rooms and a full kitchen for assembly and distribution of resident meals. On-site laundry and linen services, classroom/boardroom space for meetings, administrative and staff offices are also located on the ground floor.
RESIDENT FLOORS:
The residential floors are meant to evoke a modern design sensibility, with an emphasis on creating a serene and upscale environment. Design and functional cues have been chosen and integrated with an eye towards promoting and enhancing the well-being and recovery of all residents and family members, while, at the same time, providing a working environment conducive for the essential functions required by nurses, staff, and administrators. An innovative open nurse station provides better visibility and patient accessibility.
Residential rooms on floors two and three are all semi-private with 4’x6’ windows to maximize the amount of natural sunlight and to offer unobstructed views. Design details include wood floors and doors and custom wood-clad wardrobe closets with matching full-length mirrors and TV cabinets. Matching love seats and lounge chairs further enhances the hospitality-like ambiance for the residents. Resident rooms on the fourth floor are single-occupancy rooms offering more privacy.
PUBLIC AREAS:
All resident support areas are designed within an open plan to maximize the sense of space and light. They include furnished lounges that offer media entertainment and recreational activities, dining areas and both indoor and outdoor screened terraces.
