More Alcoholics Turn to Avantcare’s Sobrexa and Higher Success Rates, as Confidence in Conventional Alcohol Treatment Continues to Decline
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) March 07, 2014 -- In a recent interview, Dr. Frank Gibson, founder of the Last Call Program and Sobrexa creator stated, “SAMHSA studies continue to demonstrate a large gap between treatment need in the population and the small percentage of those who avail themselves of it. These studies suggest that the majority of those with alcohol problems recognize their situation long before they seek treatment, implying that interventions could be provided earlier. Closing the gap between need and service utilization, therefore, is a public health priority that depends on understanding relationships.”
An article in the NIAAA’s Alcohol Research & Health (Volume 33, Issue number4) explores recent innovations in alcohol-focused interventions aimed at closing the gap between population need and the currently uncommon use of treatment. The paper notes that alcohol services have begun to expand beyond clinical treatment to offer the untreated majority of individuals with alcohol-related problems accessible, less-intensive services.
According to the article titled The Recovery Spectrum: From Self-Change to Seeking Treatment: “These services also can be delivered by non-specialists, or can be used by people themselves to address problems with alcohol without entering the health care system. Together, these efforts have potential for helping the treatment field reach people who have realized that they have a drinking problem but have not yet experienced the severe negative consequences that may eventually drive them to seek treatment. Although the evidence supporting several innovations in alcohol services is preliminary, some approaches are well established, and collectively they form an emerging continuum of care for alcohol problems aimed at increasing service availability and improving overall impact on population health.”
Dr. Gibson explains that although there is no single reason why individuals with alcohol problems do not seek treatment, confidence in the existing, conventional treatment centers continues to decline. “Avantcare Labs was the first to present a proven option to conventional treatment with Sobrexa and the Last Call Program. From day one, we stayed focused on the need for a successful program that met the requirements of the alcoholic population. The fact that Last Call Program clients enter treatment earlier than those utilizing conventional treatment demonstrates the importance of a readily-accessed service.”
Emphasizing Dr. Gibson’s point, the NIH Report states, “These options collectively comprise a spectrum of lower- threshold services that can be accessed relatively easily, often without entry into the health care system. These services can be delivered opportunistically when people with alcohol problems are identified in community or non-specialty medical settings, or individuals with alcohol problems can access them easily and quickly when their motivations shift in favor of sobriety.”
The National Survey on Drug Use and Health shows that among the 20.8 million individuals who needed treatment but did not receive it, 3.7 percent felt they needed treatment but did not make an effort to get it and 1.1 percent of those who felt they needed treatment, did make an effort to get it but did not receive treatment.
