Austin, Texas (PRWEB) March 07, 2014

Biscoe Insurance Group is asking for support from their fellow Austin residents this March during the Handbags for Hope charity drive. This is the fourth year the company has helped raise awareness and collect donated bags, which will be given to women in shelters across Texas on Mother’s Day. Biscoe Insurance Group is participating as an official drop-off location for anyone wanting to donate new or gently used purses.

Handbags for Hope is organized by Texas Advocacy Project, a legal group that has been offering free assistance to victims of domestic violence since 1982. The organization has grown from a single hotline to now include five hotlines, legal services, nine program areas and fundraising events throughout the year. Texas Advocacy Project’s work has improved the lives of thousands of people across the state by helping them overcome abusive situations.

Biscoe Insurance Group first got involved with Handbags for Hope through the Allstate Foundation, the charitable arm of the Allstate Corporation that has supported various programs across the country for more than 60 years.“This is such a worthwhile charity that’s helping to improve the lives of Texas mothers and their children,” said Scott Biscoe, Agency Principal at Biscoe Insurance Group. “We love that it brings hope and joy to the children that get to give their mom such an important gift for Mother’s Day.”

During the 2013 event alone Handbags for Hope collected more than 3,000 purses. Donated purses are distributed to shelters across Texas, where children then pick out a bag to give to their mom as a Mother’s Day gift. Each purse includes a tag with Texas Advocacy Project’s toll-free domestic violence hotline number, as well as a pamphlet with information on how to get away from abusive situations and stay safe.

Between now and March 21st, Austin locals can drop off purses at the Biscoe Insurance Group office:
