North Shore-LIJ Health System’s CirrusHealth Named a Semi-Finalist in Patient Education App Challenge
New York, NY (PRWEB) March 07, 2014 -- CirrusHealth, the next generation, patient-centered transition-of-care-platform developed by the neurosurgical team at the North Shore-LIJ Health System’s Lenox Hill Hospital (LHH) has been named one of five semi-finalists in the Box and Dignity Health Patient Education App Challenge, the health system announced today.
CirrusHealth was one of the five selected from more than 150 applications and is the only semi-finalist based entirely within a hospital or health-care system.
In October 2013, Box, a cloud-based content and collaboration management platform, partnered with Dignity Health and the Social+Capital Partnership, a venture capital firm in Silicon Valley, to find developers who are revolutionizing the way doctors educate patients.
“We are delighted that CirrusHealth has been selected as a semi-finalist in the Box and Dignity Health Patient Education App Challenge,” said David J. Langer, MD, LHH’s director, neurosurgery. “We are developing an innovative cloud-based HIPAA compliant software platform that will bring the patient experience to a whole new level by using video and other multimedia tools to improve the patient experience and, ultimately, further engage patients in their own care.”
CirrusHealth’s first app offers existing patients who are currently undergoing treatment a virtual-office-visit (VOV) and video discharge summary (VDS) focused on providing highly personalized, multimedia education content to support patients from one level of care to another. The patient education component includes personalized VOV and VDS information that patients can access from home computers and mobile devices. The product includes pertinent information regarding a patient’s diagnosis, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT) scans, treatment options recommended, prescribed medications, admissions process, day of surgery information, discharge summary, post surgery care and additional patient transition material.
The winner of the Patient Education App Challenge will be announced in April 2014. The winning team will receive a $100,000 investment from The Social + Capital Partnership; one month office space and mentorship; an opportunity to pilot the solution at Dignity Health; and will be provided with dedicated marketing and sales support from Box.
