MM2 Modern Dance Opens 2014 Season with BREATH and the Preview of Four New Works
Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) March 10, 2014 -- MM2 Modern Dance Company opens its 2014 season, BREATH, with four new works by choreographers Jessica Bryan, Jennifer Laucella, Alison Liney and Brianne Scott. This spring preview is on Sunday, April 6th, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at The Performance Garage, 1515 Brandywine Street, Philadelphia, PA 19130. Our BREATH is the bridge which connects our consciousness to nature and life itself. We are continually moving through air, much the same way a fish moves through water. By our breathing we are attuned to the world around us, sharing the air with nature and each other. Our BREATH expresses our inner feelings, our state of well-being, our excitement and even our anxieties. BREATH flows endlessly through all, sustaining us, and allowing us to express life's nuances.
In ‘…And all good things are yours’, choreographer Brianne Scott examines positive and negative energies that are constantly around us and passing through our lives. She explores what we take in and how we react to it all, and the effect it has on the people we become.
Alison Liney, making her debut with MM2, will premiere ‘Expel’, drawing inspiration from how breath is used to create words. Pieces of text relating to breath and breathing were used to create movement and in so doing also become embedded within the movement.
With ‘Joyful Unfoldings’, Jessica Bryan shows what it means to dance in the moment. With a single breath, at that singular fleeting moment, one can capture a pure expression of joy.
Rounding out the program, Jennifer Laucella offers ‘All The Animals’, which looks at how day to day life piles on stress, worries, anxieties. So much so that it becomes hard to breathe. But when one takes a step back from it all, we can see just how small we are and our held breath can be released.
MM2 Modern Dance company members are Jessica Bryan, Jenna Faye Eugenides, Kaylee Goodwin, Jillian Ikeler, Jennifer Laucella, Alison Liney, and Brianne Scott.
MM2 Modern Dance Company provides support, space and opportunities for dance artists, who wish to explore the choreographic process, in order to cultivate and introduce new work to new audiences. MM2 recognizes the inherent value in nurturing developing artists as well as the collaborative spirit to foster creativity, while pushing boundaries and forward-thinking. While MM2 is artist-driven, it is also community-centered, recognizing the need to educate, advocate, support and promote artistic vitality in the region. MM2 dancers are committed to creating and performing a new body of work each year. As a presenter, MM2 serves and fosters Philadelphia’s growing modern and contemporary dance audience. MM2 is also committed to touring works created both nationally and internationally. After a successful tour in Italy in 2013, MM2 will be touring in Toronto for the 2014 season.
