We’ve chosen to begin this year’s Lenten season by giving back to the communities we serve and feeding the children and families at our local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (PRWEB) March 07, 2014
Long John Silver’s, the world’s largest quick service seafood company, recognized the first Friday of Lent by giving more than $300,000 to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMN Hospitals). The company also hosted a fish fry at Kosair Children’s Hospital, the local CMN Hospital in Louisville, Ky. where Long John Silver’s is headquartered.
Long John Silver’s CEO Mike Kern presented Jeff Bronkowski, director of corporate partnerships at CMN Hospitals, with a check for $304,245 in a ceremony prior to Friday’s fish fry. The funds given were raised by Long John Silver’s employees, franchisees, and customers in October 2013 through special in-store offers, including a special promotion on National Dessert Day (October 14) when every customer who gave $1 or more to CMN Hospitals received a free slice of pie.
“We’ve chosen to begin this year’s Lenten season by giving back to the communities we serve and feeding the children and families at our local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital,” said Mike Kern, Chief Executive Officer for Long John Silver’s. “We also want to salute the caring nurses, staff, and doctors who provide essential and often life-saving care to these children and thank the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals for their support of this important work in our communities.”
“We are immensely grateful for Long John Silver’s continued partnership with our organization,” said Jeff Bronkowski, Director of Corporate Partnerships at Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. “Long John Silver’s commitment to raising funds for our member hospitals has helped provide life-saving medical equipment, research and therapy to millions of sick and injured children and their families.”
Long John Silver’s has donated more than $4.6 million to CMN Hospitals in support of the non-profit organization’s mission to raise funds for children’s hospitals, medical research, and community awareness for children’s health issues over the course the 9-year partnership, which will continue in 2014, also Long John Silver’s 45th Anniversary.
“Long John Silver’s seeks out partnerships that align with our core value of C.A.R.E.: Community, Affordability, Responsibility, and Excellence,” said Kern. “We have selected Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals to be our national charity partner, because we know this organization uses every dollar we raise to make miracles happen for children in the communities where we live and operate.”
After the presentation to CMN Hospitals, Long John Silver’s staff were joined by members of the community and local media personalities in serving classic and newly-introduced seafood fare to patients, families and staff in the Addison Jo Blair Cancer Care Center and the "Just for Kids" Critical Care Center at Kosair Children’s Hospital. The menu included Norway Lobster Bites (the newest addition to the LJS menu) and Crispy breaded fish (which won’t be available in restaurants until the end of April) as well as classic favorites like hushpuppies, coleslaw, and chicken.
“Long John Silver’s has been a great community leader in supporting children’s healthcare,” said Lynnie Meyer, MSN, R.N., CFRE, Executive Director of the Children’s Hospital Foundation, which raises funds for Kosair Children’s Hospital. “Their support enables us to continue to offer the highest level of care to our most vulnerable children.”
