In the tenth grade Allen West joined the Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps program. Congressman West received his Bachelor's degree while on an ROTC scholarship at the University of Tennessee and later went on to get a Master's degree from Kansas State University, both in political science, and entered the United States Army in 1983 when he graduated from the University of Tennessee. He firmly believes that education is the great equalizer and that with a good education any child in America can live his or her dream. To that end the Allen West Foundation was formed as Congressman West’s legacy; to educate, engage and inspire the next generation of conservative leaders.
