Stress is pervasive in our lives, and according to the World Health Organization, causes $300 billion in health and productivity related costs to corporations nationwide. It increases the risk of high blood pressure, greater weight increases and elevated cholesterol levels. It can lead to burnout, chronic depression and even premature death (http://www.apa.org/helpcenter/job-stress.aspx). In short, stress sucks. Meditation has been proven to help.
Meditation isn't a magic stress-curing pill (well, maybe), but it can build internal resilience and increase focus and personal balance. Aetna conducted research a few years ago, and found that just one hour of meditation-type activity a week reduced employee stress by a third and decreased health-related costs by $2000 per employee per year. Aetna was evidently so impressed by those results they began two programs for in-house mindfulness/meditation for businesses (http://newshub.aetna.com/press-release/products-and-services/aetna-delivers-evidence-based-mind-body-stress-management-progra).
That's some serious magic.
This is where inner(be). aims to transform lives, our community, and the world. One stressed, frustrated person at a time.
inner(be). will be a collection of small, private rooms in which people can meditate, pray, or even nap - whatever their needs are that day. They will be greeted with a cup of tea, some awesome Thai fisherman's pants and a comfy shirt to change into (who can meditate in a business suit, after all?), and a choice of various aromatherapies, meditation sound tracks, peaceful music - whatever they need to reach their center. The rooms will be simple, with a meditation cushion(s) or yoga mat, a dimmable lamp and a sound system. And of course - quiet and privacy.
So inner(be). is creating the post-commute/lunch break/coffee break meditation, for the person whose time is at a premium – but so is their health.
The company started a campaign on Indiegogo.com to expedite the opening of their first site. The sooner stress is banished, the better!
