“Pupils shouldn’t take exams they won’t excel in”: Top marks for homeschool students due to the flexibility of the curriculum, says Tutors International
(PRWEB UK) 12 March 2014 -- Every student studying under a private tutor from Tutors International in 2013 excelled in their exams, according to the company, which was founded by Adam Caller in 1999, and provides full-time home schooling and private tuition support to families worldwide.
Mr Caller said that, “One hundred per cent of our students get at least one top mark in their exams, and most are awarded an A or A* in every subject they sit.”
The results are attributed to 1:1 tuition by a carefully recruited private tutor, who exactly fits the academic and social needs of the pupil and their family; and the unique academic flexibility home-schooling can provide.
Mr Caller extolled the importance of a personal consultation when parents first consider hiring a private tutor: “Unlike school, one of the great advantages of private tutoring is the flexibility it affords. We focus on the pupils strengths, and can adapt a curriculum to ensure they get the very best results, in subjects they enjoy and excel at, and will meet their long-term educational criteria. We counsel our clients not to let their children take exams in which we think they will not do well, although obviously if they have to take those exams we will prepare them as thoroughly as time allows.”
An example of this is given by Mr Caller: “We frequently adapt the curriculum depending on what university the child hopes to attend, and what academic system best suits their learning style, and what results they need to achieve. It’s not unusual for a student to be taking 6 subjects under the US high-school system, 3 UK GCSEs, and 2 IGCSEs.”
Universities are known to look favourably on home-schooled pupils, and the Dean of Brown University, a top Ivy League college in the US, said in a statement published in 2002, “Homeschoolers are the epitome of Brown students. They are self-directed, they take risks, and they don't back off." [1] and the Director of Admissions at Stanford University in California said “Homeschoolers bring certain skills – motivation, curiosity, the capacity to be responsible for their education – that high schools don’t induce very well.” [2]
All in all, Mr Caller says, “The standard of teaching from an elite private tutor conducting full-time home schooling is simply far superior to what a school can offer. While equipment might be better in a school, and there are other benefits to school life for some pupils, private tutoring delivers better exam results, and gives pupils an edge over their peers when it comes to applying for the top universities.”
